    The Practice of Holy Listening

    May 2, 2026

In our fast-paced, noise-filled world, the practice of holy listening is a radical act of slowing down.

Holy listening is not about gathering information or preparing a response. It is the intentional practice of tuning the ear of our heart to the subtle movements of the Spirit.

When we sit in stillness, we begin to notice the quiet currents of our own soul—our desires, our fears, and our deep longings. We also begin to notice the gentle whisper of God, who is always present and always speaking, though rarely in the ways we expect.

To practice holy listening, begin with just five minutes of silence. Notice your breath. Notice the thoughts that arise, and gently let them go. Ask God, 'What are you inviting me to notice today?' and simply wait.

    Longing for deeper connection?

Spiritual direction provides a safe, gentle space to explore these themes in your own life.
